These boards measure approximately 12mm (1/2") thick and are commonly referred to as drum boards. They are a heavier duty board, and are designed to be able to carry heavier cakes, such as fruit cakes and multi-tiered wedding cakes. Drum boards that are two inches bigger than the largest tier are generally used. For example, if you are baking a 12 inch cake, you will need a 14 inch drum board.
